Elko Nevada Brand Restaurant in Commercial Casino SOLD

Vintage postcards of Restaurants, Hotels and Casinos are fun to collect.

Today's postcard is of the Brand Room situated in the Commercial Casino.

The following information is from the Chamber of Commerce of Elko.

The Commercial Casino is located across the street from the Stockmen's Hotel Casino in the heart of downtown Elko. The Commercial Casino is over 100 years old, and is rich in history. The Commercial was the first casino ever to offer live entertainment. 

The Commercial Casino also features the Brand Room Buffet Restaurant, which is appropriately named. Local ranchers burned their brands into the wall in the 1950's, including Bing Crosby's +B brand. 
A gigantic 10-foot polar bear stands guard inside the casino. Replicas of "White King" adorn the outside of the historic casino building.

Vintage Postcard Minneapolis Minnesota Nankin Chinese Restaurant

Among my vintage postcards is this one of Nankin Chinese Restaurant in Minneapolis Minnesota

Post card is colorful and shows inside interior pictures plus the outside door area

The following is part of an article written by Rick Nelson of the Star Tribune which was updated

February 25, 1999

Walter James founded the restaurant in 1919 at 14 S. 7th St., now the site of the Dayton-Radisson 

parking ramp. He opened a second Nankin in downtown Chicago in 1933, where it stayed for 15 years

before moving to suburban Skokie. In 1949, James sold the Minneapolis Nankin to the Golden and 

Chalfen families, which also had interests in Holiday on Ice and the Minneapolis Lakers

 basketball team.

The Nankin moved across the street to 15 S. 7th St. in the late 1950s. In 1981, it relocated to City 

Center. US Restaurants, the company behind the Green Mill chain, were co-owners briefly in the late

 1980s. The Wu family, founders of the Szechuan Star Restaurant in Edina, have owned the Nankin for

 the past 10 years.

Their lease expired the end of January 1999 and the restaurant sadly closed.
