FRIENDSHIP FRIDAY SHARING MY VINTAGE THANKSGIVING POSTCARDS

Friendship Friday is here again and today I am sharing some of my vintage Thanksgiving postcards. They are all from the early 1900s and picture fat Turkeys and have a feeling of quiet times with family. Today it seems Thanksgiving is all about football and hurry off to shop at the stores.
I think I would rather sit back and have a nice dinner and visit with my family. I can shop another day.
Enjoy a peek into the past with my vintage postcards. They are up for sale on eBay along with a few others.

THURSDAY POSTCARD TRAVELS Piccadilly Circle London England

Today for Thursday Postcard Travels I am sharing another vintage postcard of London England. This one is of Piccadilly Circus which is a busy center of traffic at the intersection of Regent street, whence the wide Shaftesbury Avenue leads to the northeast.

The triangle in the center of the circus is occupied by a memorial fountain to Lord Shaftesbury, which was unveiled in 1893. It is adorned with eight plaques of scenes from the philanthropists life.

Thanks for visiting Thursdays Postcard Travels. Grace

SEPIA SATURDAY #149 10/27/12 Vintage 1900s Postcard Apostle Island Lake Superior

Saturday and time for Sepia Saturday. I am sharing this great vintage postcard of Drill Point Apostle Island on Lake Superior. Apostle Island is in Wisconsin. This postcard is from the early 1900s.

Sender has written on the back in pencil and is for Mrs Alva Todd. There is no stamp on postcard. Fun to peak into others past with these old post cards but they can be hard to read at times.
Check out what others are sharing at Sepia Saturday of UK.
The post card must of been delivered since there is no address or post mark. By reading card I can tell you that Mrs Alva Todd is also known as coz Carrie.
The writer tells us that she has not written lately since she has been reading novels all her time and feels naughty but is nice to do.
Hard to make out but looks like some ones grand dad cut his suspenders and went straight up. Not sure what that means. She asks about the children and Carries old man.
To bad that we do not know who these people are and that is was separated from their family treasures.
Clues are the name Alva Todd and first name Carrie. With a little work on ancestry may be able to find a relative.

Hope that you are enjoying this vintage treasure I am sharing today. This link will take you to Wisconsin Historical information on Apsotle Island.  Grace

SEPIA SATURDAY # 148 RPPC Men in Military Uniforms WWW1

Sepia Saturday today is about uniforms, bikes or maybe guns.  This party is put on by Sepia Saturday of the UK.
My posting is all about the uniform, lots of you men in uniforms. So many men climbing the stairs, laying on the ground and even 2 young men leaning out the windows.
This is a vintage real picture post card that has no stamp area or any identification. Two of the men have bands with a cross on their sleeves.

Not sure who these men are or what county they are from but my guess is WWW1 because of the post card having no stamp area and this came in a group of foreign post cards.
Take a look and let me know if you have any information to share about the uniforms.
Thanks for stopping by. Click on the Sepia Saturday link to see what others are sharing. Grace

Vintage Post Card of Minnesota State Capital and Memories of Fireworks

Several years ago dear hubby and I owned a small condo in down town St Paul, Minnesota. It was on the fourteenth floor and looked out at the state capital.  For many years the 4th of July fire works were from the grounds of the capital. Later they changed it to the grounds by the Mississippi river.  I was so disappointed when that happeSeveral years in a row we were able to watch them from our balcony. Some friends and family would join us for the beauty of it.
Todays posting is of a vintage post card showing our state capital.

Hope that you all have a wonderful Fourth of July and find a place to watch the fireworks.  We now live in a wonderful apartment that over looks Lake Superior.  The fire works will be down by the lake so we will have a fantastic view.  I am guessing it will out do the ones we use to see in St Paul looking out at the capial.

Thanks for stopping by.. Grace

~ WHISPERS FROM THE PAST~ The Allure of Vintage Post cards

It has been a long time since I posted here. For a while I just shared some of my vintage postcards on my other blog site.  After seeing that I am getting a lot of page views on this blog even though I am not posting I have decided to spend more time here again. I know that there are others out there who have the same love of old postcards as I do.

So I am back, here I am.  Todays title is Whispers From The Past The Allure of Vintage Postcards.  As old pictures can do post cards can show us another time.  As you pick up the post card I wonder who owned this post card?  What was their life like and if not written on why not.  If it is written and stamped which is my favorite I get to peek into their lives for just a moment.

Todays posting is a real picture post card. It is a wonderful example of a peek into someone's life.
Pictured is a young girl feeding chickens. Lots of chickens of different colors.  In the back ground is a farm house.

The back of the post card tells me it is from the early 1900s.
Post card was not used so we do not know who this little girl is or where she lived. Post card is aged with brown spots and wear on the edges. I think it is a treasure of a post card.  It of course will be put up for sale on ebay and etsy, but until it leaves my house it is mine to enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting. Until we meet again take a moment and look around at the other vintage postcards I have shared here. Grace
