Saturday and time for Sepia Saturday. I am sharing this great vintage postcard of Drill Point Apostle Island on Lake Superior. Apostle Island is in Wisconsin. This postcard is from the early 1900s.
Sender has written on the back in pencil and is for Mrs Alva Todd. There is no stamp on postcard. Fun to peak into others past with these old post cards but they can be hard to read at times.
Check out what others are sharing at Sepia Saturday of UK.
The post card must of been delivered since there is no address or post mark. By reading card I can tell you that Mrs Alva Todd is also known as coz Carrie.
The writer tells us that she has not written lately since she has been reading novels all her time and feels naughty but is nice to do.
Hard to make out but looks like some ones grand dad cut his suspenders and went straight up. Not sure what that means. She asks about the children and Carries old man.
To bad that we do not know who these people are and that is was separated from their family treasures.
Clues are the name Alva Todd and first name Carrie. With a little work on ancestry may be able to find a relative.
Hope that you are enjoying this vintage treasure I am sharing today. This link will take you to Wisconsin Historical information on Apsotle Island. Grace

Vintage postcards are quite interesting! It's too bad this one doesn't have more information about the sender though.
ReplyDeleteThe card also shows that foreign postage in those days was 2 cents and domestic only 1. So much for inflation :)
ReplyDeleteSome day I'd like to see the Great Lakes -- any of them!
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a difficult one to decipher. The bit about the supenders is intriguing.
ReplyDeleteVintage postcards are so fun, aren't they. They give us a glimpse of a snippet of time in the lives of people that we know and don't know.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting me. I think that we have a lot in common, by reading your profile page, and I am your newest follower.

I've made it to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron but not the rest of the Great Lakes. Nowhere I have been is as intriguing as the scene on your vintage postcard though
ReplyDeleteA very interesting postcard. Hope you solve the mystery of who those people were?
ReplyDeletethat's funny- I guess they thought reading was too much of a luxury that kept them from doing more work!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great location, a far cry from the urban life.
ReplyDelete:)~
