SEPIA SATURDAY #149 10/27/12 Vintage 1900s Postcard Apostle Island Lake Superior

Saturday and time for Sepia Saturday. I am sharing this great vintage postcard of Drill Point Apostle Island on Lake Superior. Apostle Island is in Wisconsin. This postcard is from the early 1900s.

Sender has written on the back in pencil and is for Mrs Alva Todd. There is no stamp on postcard. Fun to peak into others past with these old post cards but they can be hard to read at times.
Check out what others are sharing at Sepia Saturday of UK.
The post card must of been delivered since there is no address or post mark. By reading card I can tell you that Mrs Alva Todd is also known as coz Carrie.
The writer tells us that she has not written lately since she has been reading novels all her time and feels naughty but is nice to do.
Hard to make out but looks like some ones grand dad cut his suspenders and went straight up. Not sure what that means. She asks about the children and Carries old man.
To bad that we do not know who these people are and that is was separated from their family treasures.
Clues are the name Alva Todd and first name Carrie. With a little work on ancestry may be able to find a relative.

Hope that you are enjoying this vintage treasure I am sharing today. This link will take you to Wisconsin Historical information on Apsotle Island.  Grace

Santa Is Wishing You A Merry Christmas Vintage Postcard 1915

Christmas is really creeping up on us, isn't it. This is my first Christmas in Minnesota in five years. Hubby and I spent 3 years in Southern California and then 1 1/2 in in Texas. No snow for all those Christmas.

We are now in Duluth and there is snow on the ground. Even though I hate the cold, icy roads and everything that goes with winter, it is so beautiful.

Here is another of my vintage Christmas postcards... we have Santa in his red suit going down the chimney. What happens if you do not have a chimney? That is what I wondered when I was a little girl.

This lovely card is postmarked 1915 Wisconsin and sent to a child by the last name of Butler of Janesville Wisconsin. Sadly the postmark goes over the first name.

Message is Dear Letha (hard to make out first name with the writing). I have never heard of Letha.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and many presents. I am sure you have been a good girl and deserve them.
with love
Wilma L Bouibeau ?

Front of postcard says
Here I come the broad
chimney flue,
Bringing best Christmas wishes to you!

I am sharing this on Vintage Thingie Thursday

My wish to all of you is to have a wonderful holiday. Thanks for stopping by.. Grace

Barless Bear Den in Milwaukee Wisconsin Vintage Postcard 1934

This wonderful vintage postcard is of " Barless Bear Den, Washington Park, Milwaukee Wisconsin is dated 1934.

Rising 15 to 18 feet, the walls of irregular naturalistic formation, have at the base a moat 15 feet wide scarcely visible from the public walk. The bears standing on the extreme edge of the moat stare at the crowds only some 18 feet distant. Unique groups of Polar, grizzly , Black Bears and Wolves here enjoy practical freedom. The swimming pool is 15 by 30 feet . 7 by 30 feet is provided for sleeping and hibernating.

This pretty post card is postmarked and stamped from Milwaukee Wisconsin and addressed to Mr and Mrs E L Foster of Newton Kansas.
